Reed to discuss DOE loan program during GenForum

Department of Energy (DOE) Loan Programs Office (LPO) Technical and Project Management official Michael Reed will speak to the one-day PennWell GenForum Dec. 7 in Las Vegas.

The DOE Loan Programs Office is continuing its efforts to finance innovative clean energy technologies, including advanced fossil energy projects. Reed will address issues surrounding the DOE loan program during his morning presentation at GenForum.

Reed will be appearing on behalf of DOE LPO Executive Director Mark McCall. The mission of LPO is to accelerate the domestic commercial deployment of innovative and advanced clean energy technologies at a scale sufficient to contribute meaningfully to the achievement U.S. national clean energy objectives

Reed has more than 30 years of professional experience with senior management and leadership responsibility in both the private and government sectors. He has much experience with marine power and propulsion systems, renewable energy technologies, clean energy technologies, advanced fossil energy technologies, power engineering, marine and hydrokinetics, hydropower.

Reed began his current stint with DOE in 2010 after earlier working as a manager of DOE’s biomass power program in the 1990s.

In the private sector, Reed has also served in vice president positions Sentech and Columbia Research Corp. as well as at Advanced Engineering and Research Corp. He also worked as a project engineer with the U.S. Navy Naval Sea Systems Command.

Reed has a bachelor’s degree in marine engineering from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and a master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University.

GenForum is a one-day conference, organized by GenerationHub, which will explore how the power sector is coping with factors such as the renewable energy standards and the EPA Clean Power Plan. GenForum is one of the co-located events for PennWell’s POWER-GEN International. Both events are being held at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
