FirstEnergy gets 20-year NRC license renewal for Davis-Besse

FirstEnergy (NYSE:FE) and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) said Dec. 8 that the Davis-Besse nuclear plant in Ohio has received a 20-year license extension from NRC.

Davis-Besse, located in Oak Harbor, Ohio, about 20 miles from Toledo, is now licensed to run until 2037. The plant’s original license was set to expire in April 2017.

FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Co. submitted a license renewal application to NRC in 2010. Davis-Besse is a pressurized water reactor (PWR) capable of generating 908 MW.

NRC issued a supplemental environmental impact statement (EIS) in April.
