San Diego Gas & Electric works out interconnect deal for 20-MW battery project

San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) on Nov. 5 filed with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission an Engineering and Procurement Agreement dated Nov. 3 between SDG&E and Vista Energy Storage LLC (VISTA).

VISTA is planning to construct an approximately 20-MW battery storage facility in the County of San Diego, and has requested generation interconnection service for this Vista Energy Storage project, which is identified at Queue Position #1061 in the California Independent System Operator‘s generation queue. SDG&E is in the process of completing, under the direction and control of the CAISO, necessary studies pursuant to the CAISO’s Generator Interconnection and Deliverability Procedures (GIDAP).

In order to advance the implementation of the interconnection of the project to achieve its commercial operation date of June 1, 2016, VISTA requests that SDG&E begin certain engineering and design activities and procurement of long lead-time items related to the project’s interconnection. This work would involve the expansion of the Melrose 69-kV Substation bus to accommodate the project. There is also a need to extend one gen-tie for Q1061 from the 69-kV Point of Interconnection to the Point of Change of Ownership.
