North Carolina commission okays 20-MW Fire Solar I project certificate

The North Carolina Utilities Commission on Nov. 23 approved a March 27 application from Fire Solar I LLC for a certificate of public convenience and necessity for construction of a 19.999-MW (ac) solar photovoltaic facility to be located at 2431 Mariposa Road near Stanley in Lincoln County, North Carolina.

The application stated that the developer planned to sell the electricity generated by this facility to Duke Energy Carolinas. The application gave the projected date on which the $56 million facility will come on line as Dec. 1, 2015.

The estimated service life of the equipment is 25 years. The estimated annual energy production in year one is 38,220 MWh.
