The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on April 28 approved a Feb. 13 application by Pilot Hill Wind LLC for authorization to make market-based sales of energy, capacity, and certain ancillary services under a market-based rate tariff.
Pilot Hill is indirectly wholly-owned by EDF Renewable Energy (EDF-RE). It is developing and will own and operate a 176.9-MW (nameplate) wind facility to be located on land straddling the border between Kankakee and Iroquois counties in Illinois. The facility will be interconnected to the transmission system owned by Commonwealth Edison and operated by PJM Interconnection. All of the output of the facility will be sold in the PJM market.
EDF RE and Microsoft Corp. last October celebrated the construction launch of the Pilot Hill Wind Project with a groundbreaking ceremony. The project is expected to begin commercial operation in 2015.
