Winter storm will bring heavy snow and ice from parts of Mississippi Valley to the Mid-Atlantic

A strengthening area of low pressure will slide through the Southeast U.S today bringing wintry weather from portions of the Mississippi Valley to the Mid-Atlantic, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

The heaviest snowfall will likely occur from southeast Missouri to southern West Virginia with some locations receiving more than a foot of snow. Farther south, from central Arkansas to the Carolinas, ice will be the main threat.
