Record-breaking cold temperatures begin settling into the East

Another round of frigid arctic air will settle in over much of the eastern U.S. for the next few days, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

Temperatures will be 20 to 35 degrees below average over portions of the Upper and Middle Mississippi Valley to the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley.

Low temperatures Wednesday and Thursday will be in the single digits to below zero in many locations from the Tennessee Valley into the Northeast.
