Bitter cold continues for East; ice event looms for the Lower Mississippi and Tennessee Valleys

Bitter cold temperatures will continue across much of the eastern U.S. as the latest surge of Arctic air brings the coldest temperatures since the mid-1990s, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

As this airmass continues to settle in, moisture-return from the Gulf of Mexico will set the stage for an ice event across portions of the Lower Mississippi and Tennessee Valleys into the early weekend.
