Arizona-based solar company seeks okays for 5-MW North Carolina projects

The Bonnie Solar LLC affiliate of Sunlight Partners LLC on Feb. 6 filed an application with the North Carolina Utilities Commission for a Certificate Of Public Necessity And Convenience for a 5-MW (ac) solar facility.

This $15m solar array will be located at 9901 Main Street, Castalia, N.C. “The Generating Facility will consist of multiple solar photovoltaic arrays and (3) 1670 kW inverters and transformers.,” the application noted. “The facility will produce 5 MW AC (net).”

The project, located in Nash County, is expected to be commercially operating by Dec. 31, 2016. “The applicant plans to sell the electricity to Duke Energy Progress, under the schedule PPN(NC) Non Hydroelectric Qualifying Facilities Purchased Power,” said the company. “There are no provisions for wheeling the electricity, nor any arrangements for firm, non-firm or emergency generation. The projected lifespan of the equipment is twenty years. The projected annual sales in KWh are 9,052,000 KWh.”

Affiliates of Sunlight Partners also filed other certificate applications on Feb. 6:

  • Anna Solar LLC applied on a project that will consist of multiple solar photovoltaic arrays and three 1670 kW inverters with transformers. The $15m facility will produce 5 MW (ac). The project location is 1274 Cheeks Quarter Rd, Henderson, N.C. This project is also due for commercial operation by the end of 2016 and would sell to Duke Energy Progress.
  • Brooke Solar LLC filed on another 5-MW (ac) project, this one located 399 Julian Smith Rd., Henderson, N.C. This $15m project is also due for commercial operation by the of 2016 and would sell power to Duke Energy Progress.
  • Alexis Solar LLC plans a 5-MW (ac) project at 3400 US 258, Kinston N.C. This $15m facility is due for commercial operation by the end of 2016 and would sell to Duke Energy Progress.
  • Cardinal Solar LLC plans a 5-MW (ac) project at 709 Hickory Rock Rd., Louisburg, N.C. This is another $15m project that is due for commercial operation by the end of 2016 and would sell power to Duke Energy Progress. 

A Feb. 9 application from Sunlight’s Carter Solar LLC affliate covers a 5-MW (ac), $15m project at 2771 Bumpy Ln., Battleboro, N.C. This project is again due for commercial operation by the end of 2016 and would sell its output to Duke Energy Progress.
