Worst of winter storm ends in Northeast

The massive winter storm that has hammered the Northeast continues to move slowly northward away from New England, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

Dozens of localities in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, New York and Rhode Island records snowfalls in excess of a foot deep over the past couple of days. Some locales received between two and three feet, according to data published Jan. 28 by NWS.

News reports indicate that travel bans have been lifted in affected states.

Warmer weather can be found in places like Georgia, California and Texas, according to the national forecast.
