2015 opens with natural gas below $3

The first business day for 2015 saw natural gas futures prices below $3/mmBtu, according to data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA).

The Jan. 2 futures price for February delivery of Nymex natural gas was listed at $2.89/mmBtu, which was down 6.6% from the prior business day.

The EIA-published futures price is roughly 14 cents lower than a week earlier and roughly $1.34 less than a year earlier.
