Genalta wins delay for Alberta power project

The Alberta Utilities Commission on July 31 approved a delay in construction for a 5.6-MW power plant of Genalta Construction GP Ltd.

Genalta Construction is a wholly owned subsidiary of Genalta Power. Genalta Power, on behalf of Genalta Construction, applied on July 17 for approval of a time extension, from Aug. 31, 2014, to Dec. 31, 2015, in order to complete construction of the power plant, located in Flagstaff County.

In its application, Genalta Power said the additional time was required due to an unforeseen change in the volume of source energy at the facility. Genalta Power said that the amount of available source energy has decreased, and as a result, project scope changes have been introduced. Genalta Power said it is currently evaluating the impacts of the changes to the design and economics of the project.
