North Carolina commission approves trio of solar projects

The North Carolina Utilities Commission, after clearing up an issue with corporate registration, on June 30 approved a certificate of public convenience and necessity on the nearly 6-MW Carpenters Grove Solar Farm project.

On Jan. 9, Sun-Power-System Inc., a Hawaii corporation which is not authorized to do business in North Carolina, filed an application seeking a certificate for construction of a 5.89-MW (ac) solar photovoltaic facility to be located at 1142 Carpenters Grove Church Road, Lawndale, Cleveland County, N.C. It said it planned to sell the electricity to Duke Energy Carolinas LLC.

On May 13, the current applicant, a North Carolina corporation also named Sun-Power-System Inc., filed a copy of its Articles of Incorporation, which were filed with the Secretary of State on May 6, and took over the application. The project is due for operation by the end of this year.
