Comments on EPA CO2 proposal due Oct. 16

Unless the electric utility industry or other stakeholder secures an extension, comments on the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) new greenhouse gas emission plan for existing power plants are due by Oct. 16.

EPA announced its long-expected Clean Power Plan on June 2. It then formally published the official text of the rule proposal in the June 18 Federal Register.

When submitting comments reference Docket ID: EPA-HQ-OAR-2013-0602. Comments can be faxed to 202-566-9744; or mailed to Environmental Protection Agency, EPA Docket Center (EPA/DC), Mailcode 28221T, Attention Docket ID No. OAR–2013-0602, 1200 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW., Washington, DC 20460.

Comments can also be hand-delivered to EPA offices in Washington, D.C. or submitted via use of the federal “eRulemaking portal.”

The centerpiece of the Obama administration plan requires states to draft plans designed to cut carbon dioxide emissions from the power sector 30% below 2005 levels by 2030.
