FERC issues permit to ECOsponsible for New York hydro project

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on May 1 issued a three-year preliminary permit to ECOsponsible Inc. for a 1.5-MW hydro project in New York.

In October 2013, ECOsponsible filed an application for a preliminary permit to study the feasibility of the proposed Setting Pole Rapids Dam Hydro Project, to be located on the Raquette River in Franklin County, N.Y., near the Town of Tupper Lake.

The proposed project would consist of: three RivGen turbine generator units with a total installed capacity of 1,487 kilowatts to be installed downstream of the existing Setting Pole Rapids dam on the Raquette River; a shore power station housing two inverters to convert direct current to alternating current; and an overhead 1,450-foot-long, 46.1-kV transmission line extending from the project to an interconnection with National Grid.
