Grand Gulf Nuclear Station Begins 19th Refueling Outage

Port Gibson, Miss. – Control room operators removed Entergy’s Grand Gulf Nuclear Station from service at 8 p.m. Feb. 9 to begin Grand Gulf’s 19th refueling and maintenance outage.

During the outage, workers will replace 344 fuel assemblies in the reactor and perform various maintenance activities, tests and inspections on plant equipment.

Work will be completed by more than 600 Grand Gulf full-time employees and supported by Entergy employees from its other nuclear plants and contract workers including pipefitters, millwrights, ironworkers, carpenters, boilermakers, electricians, laborers, valve technicians, engineers, operating engineers and radiation protection technicians.

The influx of more than 1,000 outside workers and their associated spending will provide an economic boost to the local communities.
