NRC sets public meeting on Fort Calhoun

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission will hold a meeting with the public on Thursday, Nov. 21, to discuss the NRC’s oversight activities in assessing Omaha Public Power District’s recovery efforts at the Fort Calhoun nuclear power plant. The plant is located 19 miles north of Omaha, Neb.

The meeting will be held from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at the Ramada Plaza Omaha Hotel, 3321 South 72nd St.in Omaha. No decision about restart will be made at this meeting.

The meeting will be a facilitated panel of NRC subject matter experts presenting topics of significant public interest with opportunities for questions from the public. The NRC will also provide an update on the remaining restart checklist items.

Fort Calhoun entered into the NRC’s increased oversight category in 2011 after it shut down for a refueling outage. The outage was extended due to historic Missouri River flooding followed by an electrical fire and other restart complications.
