FERC: More new transmission completed in October compared to October 2012

FERC said in its October energy infrastructure update, released on Nov. 20, that 190.6 miles of transmission projects were completed in October, compared to 73 miles in October 2012.

Between January and October, 2,544.7 miles of projects were completed nationwide, compared to 2,372.6 miles completed from January to December last year.

No 500-kV lines were completed last month, compared to 14 miles of 500-kV lines completed in October 2012. FERC also noted that 180.6 miles of 345-kV line were completed in October, compared to zero miles of 345-kV line completed in October 2012.

FERC said that 10 miles of less than or equal to 230-kV lines were completed last month, compared to 59 miles completed in October 2012.

The report also noted that 138.1 miles of less than or equal to 230-kV lines were completed between January and October, compared to 1,072.8 miles completed between January and December 2012.

Of 345-kV lines, FERC said that 2,230.6 miles were completed between January and October, compared to 1,112.3 miles completed between January and December 2012.

Additionally, 176 miles of 500-kV lines were completed between January and October, compared to 187.5 miles completed between January and December 2012.

A total of 7,778.7 miles of transmission projects proposed to be in service by October 2015 have a high probability of completion: 1,160.1 miles of less than or equal to 230-kV; 4,845.9 miles of 345-kV lines; and 1,772.7 miles of 500-kV lines.

Of all transmission projects with a proposed in-service date by October 2015, FERC said that most of those miles are in the Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC) region.
