Energy company earnings preview shows sector strength

While companies including Swiss power company ABB and American Electric Power (NYSE:AEP) have already reported 3Q13 earnings results, numerous energy and energy-related companies will be announcing their results over the next two weeks.

Based on the earnings per share expectations (EPS) of Wall Street analysts, the sector remains strong, with expected EPS ranging from a low estimate of $0.29 per share to a high of $2.29 per share.

Upcoming earnings announcements include:

Tuesday, Oct. 29

  • Entergy (NYSE:ETR) will report its earnings before market open. Wall Street analysts are estimating EPS of common stock at $2.29. On Oct. 25, Entergy’s board of directors declared a quarterly dividend of $0.83 per common share.
  • Edison International (NYSE:EIX), parent company of Southern California Edison, will report its earnings after market close. Wall Street’s EPS estimate is $1.21. On Oct. 24, EIX’s board of directors declared dividends for seven series of preferred stock shares.

Wednesday, Oct. 30

  • Exelon (NYSE:EXC) will report earnings before market open. Wall Street’s EPS estimate is $0.67. Exelon’s board of directors on Oct. 22 declared a regular quarterly dividend of $0.31 per share on Exelon’s common stock.
  • Pacific Gas & Electric (NYSE:PCG) will report before market open. Wall Street’s EPS estimate is $0.79. PCG declared a 3Q13 regular cash dividend of $0.455 per share of common stock on Sept. 18, payable Nov. 15.
  • Public Service Enterprise Group (NYSE:PEG) will report before market open. Wall Street’s EPS estimate is $0.75. PEG paid a 3Q13 dividend of $0.36 per share of common stock as of Sept. 30.
  • WE Energies (NYSE:WEC) will report before market open. Wall Street’s EPS estimate is $0.56.

Thursday, Oct. 31

  • Pinnacle West Capital (NYSE:PNW), parent of Arizona Public Service, will report earnings before market open. Wall Street’s EPS estimate is $2.16. On Oct. 23, Pinnacle West’s board of directors voted to raise the company’s dividend by approximately 4% annually, resulting in an indicated dividend of $0.5675 per share quarterly.
  • PPL Corp. (NYSE:PPL), which owns Louisville Gas & Electric/Kentucky Utilities (LGE/KU) among other utilities, will report before market open. Wall Street’s EPS estimate is $0.70. PPL paid a 3Q13 dividend of $0.3675 per share of common stock as of Oct. 1.
  • Transmission infrastructure construction company Quanta Services (NYSE:PWR) will report before market open. Wall Street’s EPS estimate is $0.41.
  • ITC Holdings (NYSE:ITC) will report before market open. Wall Street’s EPS estimate is $0.48. The company’s board of directors on Aug. 14 declared a quarterly cash dividend of $0.425 per share, which was paid on Sept. 16. 

Friday, Nov. 1

  • Portland General Electric (NYSE:POR) will report earnings before market open. Wall Street’s EPS estimate is $0.44. On July 31, the company’s board of directors declared a quarterly common stock dividend of $0.275 per share, payable by Oct. 15.
  • NextEra Energy (NYSE:NEE), parent company of Florida Power & Light, will report before market open. Wall Street’s EPS estimate is $1.41.
  • NV Energy (NYSE:NVE), parent of Nevada Power Co. and Sierra Pacific Power Co., will report before market open. Wall Street’s EPS estimate is $0.89. The company’s most recent dividend of $0.19 per common share, was declared in May and paid in June, according to the company’s website.

Monday, Nov. 4

  • UIL Holdings (NYSE:UIL), parent of the United Illuminating, will report earnings after market close. Wall Street’s EPS estimate is $0.29.

Tuesday, Nov. 5

  • Dominion Resources (NYSE:D) will report earnings before market open. Wall Street’s EPS estimate is $0.91. The company’s most recent dividend of $0.5625 per common share, was declared on Feb. 26 and paid on March 20, according to the company’s website.
  • IDACORP (NYSE:IDA), parent of Idaho Power, will report before market open. Wall Street’s EPS estimate is $1.62. The company declared a dividend of $0.38 per common share on July 18.
  • Sempra Energy (NYSE:SRE), parent company of San Diego Gas & Electric, will report before market open. Wall Street’s EPS estimate is $1.24. On Sept. 12 , the company’s board of directors declared a dividend of $0.63 per common share, payable by Oct. 15.

Wednesday, Nov. 6

  • Duke Energy (NYSE:DUK) will report earnings before market open. Wall Street’s EPS estimate is $1.54. On Oct. 22, the company declared a quarterly common stock dividend of $0.78 per share payable Dec. 16.
  • OGE Energy (NYSE:OGE), parent company of Oklahoma Gas & Electric, will report before opening of the market. Wall Street’s EPS estimate is $0.92. On Sept. 25, the company’s board of directors declared a fourth-quarter dividend of approximately $0.21 per common share of stock, to be paid Oct. 30.
  • Pepco Holdings (NYSE:POM), parent company of Pepco, Delmarva Power and Atlantic City Electric, will report before market open. Wall Street’s EPS estimate is $0.44. On Oct. 24, the company’s board of directors declared a dividend on common stock of $0.27 per share payable Dec. 31.

Thursday, Nov. 7

  • AES Corp. (NYSE:AES) will report earnings before market open. Wall Street’s EPS estimate is $0.35. On Oct. 15, the company’s board of directors declared a dividend on common stock of $0.04 per share payable Nov. 15.
  • Hawaiian Electric Industries (NYSE:HE), parent company of Hawaiian Electric Co. (Oahu), Maui Electric (Maui, Lanai and Molokai), and Hawaiian Electric Light Co. (Island of Hawaii) will report after market close. Wall Street is forecasting EPS of $0.48. On Aug. 6, the company’s board of directors voted to maintain its regular quarterly dividend of $0.31 per share, payable on Sept. 11.
  • Westar Energy (NYSE:WR) will report after market close. Wall Street’s EPS estimate is $1.00. On Aug. 29, the company declared a quarterly dividend of $0.34 per common share payable Oct. 1.
