Over $1.8bn of transmission projects were energized in August, according to TransmissionHub data.
Topping the list was the 217-mile, 240-kV ATCO Electric Hanna Region Transmission Development project. The second longest project, the 214-mile, 230-kV Montana Alberta Tie project was energized in mid-August. The project cost an estimated $400m to complete.
Five Texas CREZ projects were energized in August, including the Gray to White Deer and Gray to Tesla projects sponsored by Cross Texas Transmission, and the Riley to Edith Clark and Tesla to Riley projects sponsored by Electric Transmission Texas.
There were seven new project announcements including two NSTAR Electric projects: the 115-kV, 36-mile Brighton-Waltham to Electric Avenue project, estimated to cost $120m and enter service in 2015, and the 115-kV, 2.8-mile K Street Underground project estimated to cost $20.5m, and enter service in 2014.
Nine projects reported significant changes in August. ATCO Electric increased the cost estimate for building the Eastern Alberta Transmission Line from C$1.6bn to C$1.8bn. Ameren Transmission Company received approval from the Illinois Commerce Commission to proceed with the Illinois Rivers Project – 331 miles of 345-kV line estimated to cost $1.1bn. The project is expected to be complete in 2019.
