ALEXANDRIA, Va.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–MPR (www.mpr.com) congratulates Conduit Capital Partners, Comexhidro Viento, and Next Energy de México on the completion of Eolica Santa Catarina (ESC), wind power facility.
The 22 MW commercial wind farm is the first wind project in the state of Nuevo Leon, Mexico and also the first General Electric (GE) turbine installation in Mexico. ESC is powered by eight 2.75 MW GE turbines serving the Monterrey metropolitan area and is expected to supply electricity for the next twenty years.
As the Owner’s Engineer, MPR’s commitment and project management experience played a key role in the success of the project. Through collaborative efforts with the EPC contractor, the project reached its Commercial Operation Date. During the project, MPR identified and supported the owner with key project scopes, such as: ensuring adequate substation testing, adequate data communication with dispatch center, and timely procurement of final equipment modifications. MPR was instrumental in the achievement of engineering design approvals from the Mexican Utility CFE (Comision Federal de Electricidad), engineering design reviews, and construction oversight.
The 2.75-103 turbine is part of GE’s evolutionary technology portfolio, which builds on the success and global experience of GE’s 21,000 wind turbines installed globally. Under a five year contract, GE will operate and maintain the plant – providing power equivalent to the annual need of 9,000 homes. “Eolica Santa Catarina is a groundbreaking project in renewable energy, and we are pleased to have contributed to the first GE wind farm in Mexico,” Tom Lubnow, MPR Vice President, Power, stated.
