Basin Electric members, others gather to discuss RTO membership

Basin Electric Power Cooperative – August 23, 2013

Basin Electric staff, member managers, Integrated System partners and other interested parties gathered at headquarters Aug. 21-22 to work through additional details regarding regional transmission system (RTO) membership.

On Aug. 21, Basin Electric staff provided updates on the anticipated timeline of potential RTO membership and Basin Electric’s financial forecast. The group then jumped into further discussion gathering additional questions to pose with Southwest Power Pool, the RTO Basin Electric recommended for membership in the spring.

Representatives from SPP attended the meeting Aug. 22 to provide answers to those questions and address other inquiries and concerns from all interested parties.

Basin Electric’s board room was full both days and the meetings were open to all members via Web conferencing.

“We knew when we started this process it wasn’t going to be quick or easy, but every meeting and discussion helps us take another step toward resolution,” said Dave Raatz, Basin Electric vice president of Cooperative Planning.
