NPPD plans open houses for new transmission line through Sandhills

The Nebraska Public Power District will hold six meetings in mid-January to give the public a chance to weigh in on a route for a proposed 260-mile transmission line through the Sandhills and into northeast Nebraska.

NPPD wants to build a 345,000-volt line from its Gerald Gentleman Station, a coal-fired power plant near Sutherland, north to Cherry County, and then east near the Holt/Antelope County line, where it will tie into a 345,000-volt transmission line owned by the federal Western Area Power Administration.
