PPL Susquehanna LLC on Nov. 29 said it has reconnected unit 2 at Susquehanna nuclear plant to the regional power grid after repairing a hydraulic system associated with the unit’s main turbine.
The leaks were detected by as part of routine inspections during startup procedures while at very low power levels. The oil leaks did not affect employee or public safety, PPL said.
“We made repairs and, as part of our normal process for resolving plant issues, we also inspected the soundness of other related equipment,” PPL Susquehanna Senior Vice President and Chief Nuclear Officer Timothy S. Rausch said in a statement.
Unit 1 continues operating safely at full power.
The Susquehanna plant, located in Luzerne County, Pa., is owned jointly by PPL Susquehanna and Allegheny Electric Cooperative Inc. The plant is operated by PPL Susquehanna.
