NRC schedules meeting with FPL to discuss application for new nuclear units at Turkey Point site

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff has scheduled a public meeting for Friday, Dec. 7, to discuss Florida Power and Light’s draft responses to NRC questions regarding the alternative site selection process described in the company’s combined license application for two new units at the Turkey Point nuclear plant site.

The meeting is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. EST in Salon I and II at the Miami Marriott Dadeland, 9090 South Dadeland Blvd. in Miami. The meeting is open to the public and NRC officials will be available to answer questions after the business portion of the meeting.

FPL submitted an application in June 2009 seeking approval to build and operate two Westinghouse AP1000 reactors at the site about 20 miles south of Miami near Homestead, Fla.
