Four Beltline power poles lowered for views inside Arboretum

American Transmission Co. has lowered the height of four power poles along the Beltline so they don’t ruin the pastoral view inside the UW Arboretum.

In the quiet of the Arboretum, where wild turkeys wander and bicyclists meander, there’s little sense of the hubbub of the city — or the busy Beltline Highway — just beyond.

That changed, though, when ATC erected poles along the Beltline last spring, poles as tall as 100 to 110 feet, that will hold a high-voltage transmission line being built across the width of Dane County. The 345-kilovolt line is designed to bring more electricity into the growing Madison area.
