ERCOT offers opportunity to peek behind the curtain

TAYLOR, TX, Sept. 18, 2012 — The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), the state grid operator and manager of the wholesale electric market, will open the doors of its primary control center to interested neighbors on Monday, Oct. 8.

The public is invited to participate in one of four guided tours, beginning at 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. Tours will include a presentation about ERCOT’s role in the Texas electric market and a guided, narrated view of the control room where ERCOT monitors and manages electric grid operations in most of Texas. Groups are limited to 50 participants, and reservations are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

“At ERCOT, we value our relationships with surrounding communities and appreciate the support we continue to receive from our neighbors,” said ERCOT CEO H.B. “Trip” Doggett. “Last year, we provided the first one-day open house to offer visitors a chance to see what we do at this control center to maintain grid reliability throughout the year all over the ERCOT region.”

For security reasons, pre-registration is required prior to entry on ERCOT premises. Children are welcome and encouraged to participate. Guided tours will begin at the security check-in area.
