Public hears plans for Ameren power transmission line

CHATHAM – Jay Sheedy is concerned about how a 330-mile high-voltage power line Ameren Transmission Co. hopes to build across central Illinois might affect the value of his 160 acres of farmland east and west of Pawnee.

Sheedy was among more than 90 members of the public who attended an open house the company held in Chatham Monday to distribute information about its plans.

Ameren is working to narrow down a proposed route for the transmission line, which, pending approval from the Illinois Commerce Commission, will carry 345,000 volts of power through a corridor from Quincy to Terre Haute, Ind.
