OTTSTOWN, PA – Operators at Exelon’s Limerick Generating Station took Unit 2 offline at approximately noon EDT today to allow workers to replace a valve on the plant’s steam piping system. Station operators closely monitor performance of plant equipment and made the determination to replace the valve to ensure the continued reliable operation of the plant.
Plant personnel will complete the maintenance and test the system before returning Unit 2 to service. The repairs can only be performed with the plant offline.
Limerick Unit 1 continues to operate at full power. Limerick Generating Station is located approximately 21 miles northwest of Philadelphia. With both units at full power, the site can produce enough carbon-free electricity for 2 million homes.
