San Juan calls for state hearing on SDG&E power project

San Juan Capistrano is asking the California Public Utilities Commission to hold a public hearing before granting any approval to a San Diego Gas & Electric plan to boost power-line capacity and demolish and replace a 94-year-old substation in San Juan.

The City Council voted Tuesday night to draft a letter requesting a hearing before the commission grants a certificate of public convenience and necessity, which every power project requires but does not have to be preceded by public hearings.
