Independence will buy power line from Kansas City Power & Light Co.

Independence plans to buy a 3-mile power line from Kansas City Power & Light Co. The Missouri Public Service Commission approved the purchase Thursday.

The base purchase price is $317,500, according to an ordinance the Independence City Council passed in April.

Independence Mayor Don Reimal asked the PSC to expedite the approval so the sale can go through before July 31. That’s when the city’s deal expires to buy service for the 69-kilovolt line from the Southwest Power Pool, an organization that manages transmission in several states, including Missouri and Kansas.
