Avista begins power line upgrade

Avista Utilities begins a $2.5 million construction project today to replace power lines between the Burke Substation and the Montana state line.

The current power lines covering the 8-mile distance were constructed in 1924 and due for an upgrade.

Steel poles are replacing the current wooden poles. The steel poles are much taller and less likely to be damaged from falling trees during the winter.  Avista Operations Manager for Kellogg and St. Maries Bob Beitz said the new poles would provide the area with more reliable power.
