Proposed power-line route draws protests

Only a few vacant seats were left at Arizona Public Service Co.’s community meeting Tuesday about the proposed construction of new power lines in the Estrella neighborhood of Goodyear.

The meeting, held at the Starpointe Resident Club, presented APS’ most recent proposal for a new 96kV transmission line starting from Willis Road and Rainbow Valley Road, stretching northeast to just past San Miguel Drive and Estrella Parkway.

All of the residents who spoke at the meeting opposed the plan and cited concerns about negative effects on property values and mountain views.

Electric company officials are going to explore alternative routes for the power lines, said Kendra Cea, community franchise and outreach consultant for APS.
