The state Public Service Commission is extending the public comment period for a 1,000-megawatt underground electric transmission line planned to run from Quebec province to New York City.
The deadline for the public to submit comments on the line, known as the Champlain Hudson Power Express, had been April 27. But concerns raised by an elected official in Rockland County prompted the deadline to be pushed back to June 29.
The PSC held a public hearing on the project for Rockland County residents on April 12 in Haverstraw Town Hall in Garnersville, but Haverstraw Supervisor Howard Philips Jr. wrote the PSC afterward that not enough people knew about the event and that many still want to voice their concerns.
