Attendees learned less and more than they were expecting at Monday’s Bay Lake Project transmission line open house.
Mostly, people wanted to know if the 345-kilovolt transmission line from the Green Bay area to Ishpeming, Mich., would go through their backyard. The answer in every case was “it might.”
American Transmission Co. proposes building the 175-mile line, plus two smaller side projects, to improve electric reliability in the Upper Peninsula, which has only one major power line. The cost is estimated between $590 million and $890 million.
