NERC names new general counsel

NERC President and Chief Executive Officer Gerry Cauley is pleased to announce that Charles A. Berardesco will join NERC as the new general counsel, effective July 2.

Prior to joining NERC, Berardesco served as Constellation Energy’s senior vice president, general counsel, corporate secretary and chief compliance officer, as well as chief legal adviser to Constellation’s Board of Directors. Berardesco joined Constellation in January 2003 and served in a number of different roles at the company.

“Charlie brings his outstanding legal and corporate background, especially in compliance and regulatory activities, to NERC,” Cauley said. “His knowledge and expertise will help further develop the legal strategies and policies of the electric reliability organization.”

Prior to joining Constellation Energy, Berardesco practiced law and served in senior executive positions for nearly 20 years, including vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary at Fusara, a consortium of AIG, Kemper and Prudential; and as senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary at HCIA, a publicly held health-care information company.

“I am honored to be joining NERC’s talented team and support the essential mission of North American grid reliability,” Berardesco said. “We are at an important juncture in the development of an overall national energy policy and NERC’s role and responsibilities have never been more relevant or more important.”
