Mesa Power and Pickens enter into Texas wind partnership

T. Boone Pickens is back in the wind energy game in Texas with the announcement of a partnership between his Mesa Power Group and Wind Tex Energy LP.

Mesa Power Group LLC, Pickens’ Texas-based renewable energy development company, is partnering with Wind Tex Energy, LP, on the 377-MW Stephens Bor-Lynn Wind Project (SBL), about 50 miles south of Lubbock.

Mesa is seeking a buyer for the project’s power. Stephens Bor-Lynn is the company’s only Texas project. The SBL project, located in Borden and Lynn counties, is planned to begin commercial operations in 2013. Mesa Power will be deploying 233 GE 1.6-MW wind turbines.

“Mesa Power is excited about this wind project opportunity in Texas, and about partnering with Wind Tex Energy,” says Mesa Power executive Mark Ward. “We believe it is an excellent addition to the wind projects we’ve been developing since 2007.” Mesa Power Group is currently developing wind projects in Minnesota, Canada and Texas that total more than 1,000 MW of power. Plans are to complete development and obtain financing for the project in the second half of 2012, company officials say.
