On behalf of Energy Central, I’d like to welcome you to GenerationHub.
Here at GenerationHub a trio of business journalists, who together have more than 50 years of experience on the energy beat, will use 21st-century technology to bring you the best available news and data on power generation.
In a nutshell: We will offer cradle-to-grave coverage on power plants. We will strive to become your eyes-and-ears to monitor developments that bring new megawatts to the grid, retire old megawatts, or change the existing generation mix.
This effort will include a healthy dose of power generation trends; analysis; policy; and regulation.
We hope to become your go-to source for generation information. We will also aspire to be the most interesting energy news service you see today.
Our team includes Barry Cassell, who has covered coal-fired generation, mining and clean air issues for more than 23 years. Most recently Barry was editor of SNL Energy’s Coal Report. He was formerly with Platt’s Coal Outlook for 15 years as the publication’s editor and contributing writer.
In addition, GenerationHub will feature Bill Opalka. Bill is familiar to Energy Central subscribers as a trusted observer on renewable energy issues. He serves as editor of RenewablesBiz Daily. Before joining the company, Bill was the founding editor of a leading wind energy publication. He has ample experience in trade publications and newspapers, mostly focused on the utility sector.
My name is Wayne Barber and I’m the third member of the GenHub team. I’ve been covering energy and natural resource-related issues for more than 20 years. I was previously the editor for nine years of Generation Markets Week owned by SNL Energy and its predecessor Io Energy. I’ve also been editor of publications such as Coal Outlook and Mine Regulation Reporter. I’ve also had stints at McGraw-Hill’s nuclear and coal newsletters as well as at some small-town newspapers.
The editorial team here at GenHub will lean heavily on the Director of Data Strategy Kent Knutson who has held leadership posts with many energy information companies.
The GenHub team will report to Energy Central’s Vice President of Data Analysis Randy Rischard. We will also tap the technology and resources that Energy Central has developed over the years.
Ultimately, however, Genhub’s success or failure will hinge on developing a strong relationship with you. We welcome your story ideas, questions, comments – and even complaints.
