Report: Sempra, Terra-Gen win approval to sell wind energy to California utilities

Sempra Energy and Terra-Gen Power LLC have received approval from the California Public Utilities Commission sell wind energy to California utilities, Bloomberg News reported March 23.

San Diego Gas & Electric will buy the electricity from Sempra’s 156-MW Energia Sierra Juarez project in Baja California at $106.50 per MWh, Bloomberg reported.

Edison International subsidiary Southern California Edison will buy the output from four additional phases of Terra-Gen’s 1,550-MW Alta Wind Energy Center in Tehachapi, California. Terra-Gen did not disclose financial terms, according to Bloomberg.

The agreements will help the utilities comply with a state law that requires one-third of their energy to come from renewable sources by 2020, according to the publication.
