Lea County Electric completes 46.7-MW gas-fired plant in New Mexico

Lea County Electric Cooperative Inc. has completed the construction of a 46.7-MW power plant located just east of Lovington, New Mexico.

Wärtsilä supplied the new gas-fired plant to Lea County Electric for an “undisclosed price,” according to a March 27 news release.

The plant consists of five 20-cylinder Wärtsilä 34SG generating sets running on natural gas, together with associated equipment including selective catalytic reduction (SCR) units for reducing greenhouse gas and nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissions.

Construction on the plant was begun in April 2011 and was completed ahead of schedule.
