A public hearing on the “Chester Line” portion of a high-voltage power line project called CapX2020 will be conducted in Oronoco on March 29.
The proposal is to add a 29- to 30-mile segment of 161-kilovolt power lines extending to an electrical substation east of Rochester from another substation near Pine Island. The 161-kv lines would follow the same path as a 345-kv mainline, near the Olmsted-Wabasha county line, for part of the route.
Xcel Energy is the main applicant for a route permit to be granted by the Public Utilities Commission. Project partners include Dairyland Power Cooperative, Rochester Public Utilities, Southern Minnesota Municipal Power Agency, and WPPI Energy.
