First Solar Inc. (Nasdaq: FSLR) on March 14 said it will build a 20-MW photovoltaic solar power project in Hagerstown, Md.
The solar facility, in which First Solar holds 100% stake, will use First Solar’s advanced thin film PV modules to generate enough renewable energy to power about 2,700 average Maryland homes.
The project will sell electricity and renewable energy credits (RECs) to FirstEnergy Solutions under a contract, First Solar said.
Construction on the project is set to begin in the second quarter of 2012, with completion expected in the fourth-quarter 2012.
This new solar facility will help Maryland meet its renewable energy goals and is expected to provide 125 construction jobs, said Frank De Rosa, First Solar senior vice president for business development — the Americas.
