THUMB REGION — Company officials said Tuesday that construction of the Thumb Loop high-voltage transmission line is set to get under way next week.
“Construction is going to start on Monday,” said Jon E. Jipping, ITCTransmission executive vice president and chief operating officer. He noted construction crews are mobilizing to build the first segment of Thumb Loop Project, which consists of about 140 miles of double-circuit 345,000 volt transmission lines and four new substations. Phase 1 of construction will extend about 62 miles from the site of the new Bauer substation in Tuscola Township, southwestern Tuscola County, to the new Rapson substation in Huron County, east of Bad Axe in Sigel Township.
Jipping said the area will start seeing towers go up within about a month or two. Already, there has been work under way on the new Bauer substation on the west side of the Thumb.
